Immaculate (Mohan 2024)
Marshall Smith, PhD, and Laura Patterson, PhD, offer a sociological discussion of the 2024 film Immaculate. This presents as a pretty typical possession film. However, we found it proved to be much more. It offers powerful representation of women and pregnancy so rarely seen in horror. It also offers significant commentary about conservative religious hypocrisy and misogyny. Perhaps we should not have been skeptical, but we were defnitely very pleasantly suprised with how good this movie is! Especially if you are a horror fan, the film stands out in how it contributes to the genre.
This is really a twin film to The First Omen, so we strongly recommend you watch that film, and listen to our episode, as well.
